NSW entered a snap statewide lockdown at 5pm on Saturday after recording 466 new cases of COVID-19, which continues to spread across the regions.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to say the stay-at-home orders would be introduced for all of regional NSW to “minimise movement and protect our communities from the evolving COVID situation in Sydneyâ€.
Mr Barilaro used an online call on Saturday afternoon to tell regional NSW MPs that the entire state would be in lockdown for at least seven days, an MP unauthorised to speak on the issue told the Herald.

Victoria has downgraded south-east Queensland from a red zone to an orange zone which should make it easier for residents to return to the state.
The state announced on Saturday night it had changed 11 local government areas from red to orange zones which means people who have been in Queensland after 8.01pm on July 31 can travel to Victoria and will only need to get a COVID-19 test within 72 hours and isolate until receiving a negative result.
The 11 LGAs are: City of Brisbane, Moreton Bay Regional Council, City of Gold Coast, City of Ipswich, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Logan City, Noosa Shire Council, Redland City, Scenic Rim Regional Council, Somerset Regional Council and Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
The LGA of Cairns and Yarrabah remain red zones.

Victoria set a new daily record for COVID-19 vaccine doses with 29,490 administered on Friday but concerns remain about more wastewater detections across the state.
Locations in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria showed unexpected wastewater samples in recent days.
Carlton, Glenroy-Broadmeadows, the Sunshine West industrial area, Camberwell and the Truganina-Williams Landing areas in Melbourne all showed positive detections and while some of those suburbs already have COVID-19 cases, the chief health officer’s update on Saturday night said the detections were from parts of those suburbs without cases.
The Carlton wastewater detection was identified as coming from a public housing estate with health officials contacting residents directly and CoHealth setting up onsite testing at the estate.
Lakes Entrance in Victoria’s eastern coast and Shepparton in the north-east both recorded unexpected wastewater detections.
The Shepparton catchment takes in Shepparton, Kialla and small parts of Shepparton North and
Orrvale so anyone who worked or visited those locations from August 9-11 should get a COVID-19 test if they have the slightest of symptoms.
The Lakes Entrance catchment takes in Lakes Entrance, Lake Bunga, Kalimna, Lake Tyres and the Lake Tyres Aboriginal Trust with anyone who lived or worked in those areas from August 8-11 asked to get a COVID-19 test if they have the slightest of symptoms.
Victoria recorded 33,675 test results on Friday but the government has requested the number climb past 40,000 per day to make sure they have the best chance to find all cases.
Residents in the New South Wales/Queensland border zone will face more restrictions on travelling into Queensland.
From 8pm tonight NSW residents within the border zone can only enter Queensland for essential services, essential work and to shop for essentials that can’t be reasonably obtained on the NSW side.

“Following the announcement of a state-wide lockdown in New South Wales, Queensland is requiring any New South Wales resident who lives anywhere in the border zone to follow the same rules as those required for current lockdown (stay at home) zones,†a Queensland Health update read.
Among the permitted reasons are:
Exercising, attending a wedding or funeral or recreation are no longer reasons for entering Queensland.

Supermarkets in Malvern and Balaclava are among the latest additions to the Victorian exposure sites list.
Coles Malvern, Chemist Warehouse Malvern and Malvern Authorised Newsagency, all on Glenferrie Road, all had positive cases at their shops on August 10 with anyone at those places at the listed times asked to get a COVID-19 test and isolate until receiving a negative test.
Coles Balaclava on Camden Street and Alfred Street has three mentions, all listed as tier two, with a case attending the supermarket on August 7 from 7.15pm to 8.45pm, August 8 from 12pm to 1.30pm and August 11 from 12.15pm to 2pm.

In Sydney’s winter sunshine, there’s every reason to be out and about. From paragliders to surfers, dog walkers to people watchers, fresh air and exercise was the name of the game around the city’s beaches on Saturday.

London: During the first wave of the pandemic, more than one in 10 COVID-19 patients in the UK caught the virus while they were in hospital for other reasons, researchers reported in The Lancet.
The study was based on data from 314 hospitals related to diagnoses that were made before August 2020.

The researchers identified patients as having hospital-acquired infections using a combination of their admission date and symptom onset date, and estimates of their infection date based on the known incubation period distribution of SARS-CoV-2.
To incorporate uncertainty in patients’ incubation periods, they imputed infection dates for patients and identified those admitted before infection as having hospital-acquired infections, their report said.
